Sherbet Rules!

It was hot out so we licked our cones fast as we could on the way home. Chrissy said Lessie’s flavors were the same color as Lessie’s new sherbet dress: bubblegum, blueberry, lemon, mint and orange. Oh yeah! Lessie was a happy girl on top of the world so she started to skip. Next thing you know she’s lickin’ n skippin’ n’ heal’s clickin’. So we all started singin’ and skippin’, our heals clippin’ and clappin’ until Lessie double clicked, clipped, missed a skip and totally flipped! Her butt went down, her arms and legs flew up and her ice cream cone went sky high tossin’ colorful balls up in the sky in slow motion and they came down fast all icky n drippy and landed on Lessie’s curly head. We laughed and wriggled and she screamed and cried then giggled her tears dried and the sherbet rained rainbow rivers all over Lessie’s new dress. A river of melting ice cream started to stream down the street too but when we looked up close we saw there were some bits of cone still good to eat. Then, being full, I shared my own tutti fruitti ice cream with Lessie I didn’t really like ice cream anyway I just wanted the sugar cone. By the time we got home the sun dried out and stiffened the sherbet in Lessie’s hair but then flies tried to eat it. Covered with dried ice cream smeared with tears on her face and her new dress crusty and stiff and knees bleeding we walked in as if nothing happened. We didn't want to have to explain where we got money to buy ice cream if we didn't have to. Turns out we had to on account of us hearing Kathleen screaming from the basement: “Somebody stole my hard earned money!”, and “There are twelve quarters missin'”. Chrissy pointed her sticky fingers right at me.  The flies stuck in Lessie’s hair got quiet and glared at me. “That’s a Damn lie!” I said, “I only took eight quarters.”
